What to do with old wedding dress

When I was 25 years old, I got married to my husband of 3 years. We both had just graduated from college and there was no work to be found. To make ends meet, I took a lodger into my apartment. It was a very common thing back then and affordable. My life took a turn and soon after we moved in together, we were pregnant with our first child. When I became pregnant, I stopped working and we all had to start taking care of each other. I was happy that we were having a child but also sad that everyone in my life would change. But even with the new addition, we still needed a little extra money so when my husbands dad offered us a room in his house for rent, it was perfect. We were all happy about it, except for his son who was only 16 at the time. He did not really want his dad to rent out a room to me so he constantly bugged him about it. It only lasted for a few months until they both grew up and got over it. The room still had some stuff left over from when they lived there so they set out some guidelines on how to use it and what not to do with it.Now that you have your own place, you have all the space you could ever need and the extra money can go far. There are so many things you can do with your extra money; one thing I would love to spend my money on is nice old-fashioned dresses! You can find amazing vintage dresses at amazing prices on Ebay and Etsy! Teenage daughters of my friends have also learned how to sew so they make their own dresses from fabric stores . At the moment, one of their projects is making their moms wedding dress into pajamas because she has no feet anymore! Thats the beauty of having old dresses; you can make whatever you want out of them!

Why do old wedding dresses turn yellow?

Over time, light and oxygen attack the chemicals in old wedding dresses, turning them yellow. This is called carmaking and it is natural and reversible. Carmaking is not a sign of damage, but rather a sign of history.A gowns chemical composition changes with age due to the build up of mixtures of compounds that are present in the fabric. As oxygen ingress into a garment, it reacts with the compounds in the material to form new ones, breaking down the compounds that were present in the fiber in the first place. So although a dress will never be as good as when it was new, it can slowly turn back into its original form with gentle care.
